I am restoring a 74 Challenger. I bought it as a shell and have been adding parts to it over the last several years. It came with a mopar steering column but doesnt have the crush can and stock steering wheel. Instead it has a mopar direct connection type wheel (maybe drag race style?) The pressed on steering wheel base is making contact with the column body when rotating. Is this adjustable and/or can i shim it out and retighten the retaining nut after shimming it with acceptable results? Or is there some wear inside that has caused this to happen? Just looks like the nut tightens the steering base too close to the column body causing the interference, but im not sure since i havent pulled the base off the splined shaft all the way yet. Would appreciate any advice from someone who might have had a similar problem. Thank you in advance
