I seriously considered one of several '16 SRT's that were for sale about 2 months ago. One was $6K off the other was $10K off sticker. But what kept me from doing it was the initial drop in resale value was from sticker price to about $35K and the fact that these cars have not been maintained at all for 2 years. I am not concerned about lubricants, but they generally sit in the sun and snow outside and would need a deep polish to remove water spots, etc. And there is nothing to be done about the slow deterioration of the interior when exposed to direct sunlight.
I keep my car in a garage and after 9 years ('09 R/T Classic), it looks showroom fresh with 53K on the ODO. So unless the dealer is willing to drop the price closer to the value a '16 would have now approaching 3 model years old with say 1000 miles on it (check Edmunds or other car valuation services), I would pass on the deal. But I can see if you are going to just drive it for a few years and sell it, these leftover models can be a good bargain. Just be firm with the dealer. They have to move these cars as they are paying financial handling charges every month they have a loan on them so they lose money when the car doesn't sell.

the only way I could afford to buy a close to new yea model would be to have mine (2009 RT) burn to the ground or totaled. I have it insured through Hagerty valued at $35,000...... which I don't see happening anytime soon, like you I now keep mine garage kept. yes it gets driven, 96,000 on the odometer now. book value on mine is about 13K, I laugh at me salesman every time he wants to make a trade offer for mine to get a new one. But he knows that ain't happening.

Yea, think it's worth $1,000 Gas Guzzler TAX & $5,500 over 5-years not to be driving a Prius.

As you may know, that only applies to the 6 speed manual Challengers. Automatics don't get the gas guzzler tax, with exception of the Hellcat.

None of the Camaro SS's or Mustangs get it. Only the Shelby GT350 Mustang (Manual) gets it.
