The timing chain wound up being a recall in 2009 and they replaced them with 6.1 chains. Problem solved. I had mine done but i never had any problems before that except for an alternator. Other than that. It’s been clean.

I had the 5.7L in my 2015 Challenger R/T Plus. Have also had the 5.7L in a 2014 Ram and currently have one in my 2018 Jeep GC. Great engines to be sure. However, the 6,4L in my 2016 Scat Pack is in another world. The sound, feel, and power of the engine and performance in combination with the ZF8HP70 transmission is truly awesome. I am 71 years old and do not "hot rod" cars any more but it is Christmas every time I take the car for a drive. IMO, the Scat Packs are the best combination of price, performance, comfort, and practicality in a muscle car on the market today.

Given the way you describe your driving habits and assuming you properly maintain your vehicles, maintenance and reliability should not be issues. My Scat Pack has been flawless so far. Oil changes every 6 months with Penzoil Ultra Platinum 0W-40 SRT oil and OEM filters is all I have had to do. Have not had a MOPAR supercharged car yet but my 2012 Shelby GT 500 was supercharged and presented no additional maintenance or reliability costs over and above that of the NA 2012 Mustang GT I had. But then again, I am like you and do not drive my cars hard and they tend not to give me any issues.

Take a look at this web site for performance information on the models you are considering: https://www.zeroto60times.com/vehicle-make/dodge-0-60-mph-times/ If you like cars that have huge power and perform well in a straight line, then the MOPARs you are considering will make you very happy. If you want a factory race car that will water your eyes on a road course then take a look at the Shelby GT350. It compares in price to the Hellcat base car.

If money is not an issue, I would lean toward one of the Hellcat models. I am looking at trading mine soon on the base Model Challenger Hellcat (717 HP) and no options.

Actually, I understand that the wide body is suppose to make the Scat pack, Hellcat or Red eye Challenger more stable and in getting the power down to the ground. Perhaps making it a less of a squirrely car with the skinner tires and without the magnetic adaptive suspension that comes with wide body option.
This being the case as the wide body doesn't appeal to me cosmetically but is functional in all of the above which is an improvement in performance and perhaps making it even safer to drive, I would go for a wide body in a Challenger that is white in color since those add on fender flares don't look as bad.

It's 2021 and now I love the SPWB R/T 392. Per Consumer Reports it is now a recommended vehicle. Funny how that publication changed it's tune as they had this vehicle a short time ago as a very unreliable vehicle. :rockit::gr_grin::winner_second_h4h::driver:

So much for Consumer Reports being accurate?

Sometimes you get a bad run of parts... That's just how it goes. As I recall, there was an inherent issue on all first year model Villager and Quest vans. It wasn't anything dangerous, but it was something that needed to be addressed at the dealership. It was either that, or miss the launch date. We once ran out of the proper bolts for the hood latch mechanism. FoMoCo had us use an alternate bolt, which later had to be changed for the correct bolts. Again, it's either that or shutdown production.

How do you deal with the rock chips that the wider tires kick up and can mess up your paint job?

It is a car and my DD. It will get scratches, chips, dings, finger prints and dirty. Currently you cannot see any scratches or chips past the 1/2" daily layer of pollen. And past that we will have rain and the road crud will be worse than the scratches or chips. On the days the the car is clean and shiny, no one is on the ground looking at the rocker panels or lower portions of the car pointing going " wow look at that".

I drive it to and from work, to and from the grocery store, to and from vacation. This is a piece of machinery that is all. If it gets fucked up enough I will either paint it or just live with it.

And while I take very good care of it, it is just a car. My DD and full time fun machine, not a garage queen.
