This is my third vehicle putting the JLT can in and it's like putting in a permanent K&N air filter or changing oil, you either believe in doing it to save problems later on or you don't. Some folks use any oil while others pay for quality and I will put a hundred bucks in a can giving me piece of mind that I'm running clean as I can and I won't have to deal with what could have been a preventable problem later on

I think the use of a catch can on a road car offers dubious benefits. There are all kinds of theoretical arguments regarding them, both pro and con. Wish I could actually ask a Dodge engineer about the subject.

Back in the day when engines had carburetors or TBFI, fuel and air traveled the entire length of the intake manifold. The only residue was a tan layer caused by the baking on of fuel vapor and it hurt nothing. Now with port or direct injection, oil vapor coat the entire inside of the intake. Modern engines opened up have a layer of sticky oil like a layer of soft clay on the inside of the intake. This layer migrates to the back side of the intake valves when the engine shuts down and bakes on them. It’s another way of disrupting the flow of air into the cylinder.

I have a friend who owns a 2015 Scat Pack Challenger with 140K miles on it. His 392 engine has a catch can. When the throttle body had to be replaced, the intake was clean with just a layer of tan sooty residue- so thin you could wipe it off with a rag.

It was a very informative and excellent post that I thought our members would like to read. I didn't notice your name and didn't want to reference a competing site.

Will the catch can void the warranty?

I have never heard of any issue with warranty. You could check with your dealer if you’re concerned.
I cant see how they would have any issue after seeing what the can collects.

An oil catch can should not be an issue with a dealer. I have even heard of some dealers installing them.

That being said, I would remove it before taking your car in for warranty work. Better safe than sorry. You don't want to give them an excuse to deny free warranty work.

I did not remove it and they replaced my engine and trans under warranty....and even put it in a better place when they reinstalled it.

Now, if you fail to check it and empty it, and send a slug of oil into the intake, they might have a reason....
