Racer X does an interesting comparison between the 5.7 R/T and the 6.4 Scat Pack. In his video, he lists the following 5 reasons why some buyers may prefer the R/T:

    1. Price ($5,000 less base)
    2. More responsive to engine mods
    3. Operating Cost (mileage and lower octane requirement)
    4. Proven engine ("sweet spot" for the street)
    5. Lower insurance premium

5 reasons the Challenger R/T is actually better than the Scatpack - YouTube

I've owned both ... a 2011 Challenger R/T Classic and a 2015 Challenger SRT 392 ... and there are pluses and minuses to each.

If the Adaptive Suspension was available in the R/T 345, then my next Challenger would be a R/T Shaker with the 5.7. Because I've had just enough birthdays that I appreciate the softer "stock" ride of the SRT 392 over the stock ride of the R/T 345.

I know what you’re saying. When I have mine in track mode I’d swear there was no suspension at all. The older I get the more my old bones feel every bump and pot hole.

If you had a 2009 SRT, like me, you would have no choice. My suspension is permanently set to something close to track mode from the factory.

Agree as well....I only use full track mode for short durations, and on smooth roads......just too painful. I do have custom set to basically track mode but with suspension in street and steering in sport.

It doesn't help that my head is very close to the sunroof operating mechanism, and in track mode, any decent bump has me hitting it.

I normally sit very upright in my vehicles, but in the challenger, I have no choice (due to the sunroof operating mechanism) but to lay the seat back some. I've gotten use to it, but I do wish the seat could be lowered more.

Had I bought new instead of having to go used, I'd have gotten one without a sunroof, as I don't really use or even like them.

I know what you mean, I’m 6’-3” and my pumpkin has caught the edge of the sunroof several times. Like you I’d never order a car with a sun roof.

This is simple to answer. The 5.7 R/T is the better choice. Why? Because that's what I bought! LOL

When you think about it, that's what makes the Challenger such a great car. It comes in so many different flavors, there's one that will meet your requirements and do what you want it to do. :)

Get rid of that sunroof once and for all like I did. No head bumping here....

Great subject. Had my R/T had a 6.4 in it I may have gone for it. I know the insurance cost are a lot higher. My 5.7 Hemi suits me fine. Plenty of power and I could care less about my car is faster than your car debate. I just like owning a real icon of American muscle. And it is difficult to lose a Plum Crazy Challenger in a parking lot.

There will always be newer models and more powerful engines.

I have a 2009 SRT, with a 6.1 Hemi and still love it. When I bought it in Dec. 2008, it was the top dog. In 2011, its position as Dodge's top horsepower car was eclipsed by the 6.4. Those owners then saw their SRTs and Scat Packs eclipsed by the supercharged Hellcat. Finally, Hellcat owners were trumped by the Demon and Redeye.
