As part of our Tail of the Dragon drive this past week we also went on local TN and NC roads to enjoy the Cherohala Skyway. The Skyway is always a fine drive but the trees are starting to get too high again along the pullouts. Maintenance was slow here in the past to correct this but when they get around to it again the drive will be as pleasant as usual. In our opinion it is every equal to the Blue Ridge Pkwy as far as scenery. The temps went from 82 degrees in Tellico Plains TN to 63 degrees at the top 5,000' level. We grabbed an excellent dessert at a local bakery (Tellico Grains, cute) and enjoyed it at one of the pullouts that still had a decent view.
The entire loop of both the Dragon and Skyway takes the better part of the day considering we are 2 hours away.
