If someone were to tell you that a car with a 228 hp. engine could hold its own or beat a Challenger with a 5.7 or 3.6 engine, some of you might be skeptical.

However, drag racing is all about power-to-weight. For example, a 2022 Subaru BRZ Limited produces only 228 hp., yet it goes from 0-60 mph. in 5.4 sec. and turns the 1/4 mile in 13.9 sec. @101 mph. The car only weights 2,843 lbs.- 1,400 lbs. less than a Challenger!

Similarly, a 2022 Hyundai Veloster N goes from 0-60 mph in 5.2 sec. and turns the quarter in 13.8 sec. @104 mph. Although its engine produces 275 hp., it weighs only 3,096 lbs.- again, about 1/2 ton less.

You can play around with vehicle weights and horsepower, with this online tool.

How true you just explained it.... Why these so called street cars go down a 1/8 mile at 4 seconds.... Its all about how much can be put to the pavement without spinning... SPINNING aint winning... bbmac
