    Hello all.

Is the OEM thermostat at 205 for my srt8?

I ask because I just had some front end work done including the thermostat.

My needle fluctuates between under the half way point and goes over the halfway point by a bit. Is that normal for it to move before and after the midway point on the dashboard?

I have been smelling something coming out from under the car when I drive it. there is no smoke or overheating happening. it smells like burning oil or some sort of burning smell. Not sure if I should worry?

everything is working fine. I do get an error code which states the oxygen sensor.

    thx

Not positive, but I think that is correct. Around the half-way mark is wear my gages indicate as well. As far as the burning oil smell, look around and see if you can see anything especially on the exhaust manifolds. You might have to look underneath as well.

The 6.1 has a 205 F degree thermostat. During the summer, mine will run around 210-215 F degrees around town. When I get up and going, it cools back down. It is high for emissions.

I could swear mine moves quite a bit as well, I guess it's just an electronics thing. I would def look into an odor problem though.

    Thank you.

Also, I keep hearing 12 and 6 o'clock. THe little pin hole on the thermostat does it go at the 12 or 6 o'clock position? does it matter?

    12 O'clock.

Is the smell antifreeze? Mine has that sometimes, and I have walked past a few other SRT vehicles, and got the same whiff.

I don't think so. Something more oil like but no stains on the ground. I have not checked the engine. But I would see smoke if it was leaking on the engine correct?

Only time I ever saw engines smoke, is when it leaked on the headers, or exhaust manifold.

With nothing but propylene glycol, you could run even higher temps with no risk of boiling, especially if cooled from the top down, like one year of Corvette was. (but conventional coolant)

Edit: on my 6th vehicle with pure propylene glycol, no water, and no pressure in cooling system. 4 Dodge trucks, (one BB, one SB, one Hemi and one Diesel) one RX7, and a Hellcat, of course.

Since PG does not conduct electricity, there is no corrosion or rust in the systems once the PG is used.

I don't trust gauges and only pay attention to the digital output. Access the display for all the operating parameters and watch that if you are concerned. My '09 R/T runs at 203 +/- 4 essentially all the time except when I was pulling Baker Grade on Hwy 5 in CA. Then it got to 210.
I pay close attention to temperature as I had a cooling fan fail and engine temp got to 258°F. But just for a moment. Once replaced, all was well again.
