So I just found out that my 2015 Challenger has functional hood air scoops. Now I am concerned about water getting in the engine compartment during heavy rains. Is this an issue or am I worried about nothing?? I had a 2012 Shelby GT500 with a heat extractor on the hood that let all kinds of crap (including water) into the engine compartment. Did not like that at all.

I raised this issue with the SRT engineers several years ago. They stated that this is not a problem. Nothing to be concerned about.

Thanks SRT Tom. Still don't like water anywhere near my engine compartment.

One of the first mods I did was functional hood scoops.

My 2009 R/T came with the caps. I live in Washington State, so I would know if rain was getting in. :) No worries at all. I get more water under there from the sides while washing then driving in a downpour. Cheers!

I have a 2015 scatpack and those hood scoops are only open 1/3. I popped mine out and used my dremel and opened them up a little more than 2/3 and cut out a much wider opening in the firemat or whatever that black stuff is that's attached to the underside of the hood. Getting water into the engine compartment isn't a major concern since these engine bays were designed to survive very wet conditions. In my photo, the bottom one is the stock opening and the top one is wider opening i made.

The hood scoops help to prevent heat soak. They result in engine bay temperatures 15 degrees less.

What is that material that's attached to the underside of the hood for?

It has two purposes- Sound deadening and to suffocate an engine fire.
