With the Uniden, you have to train it yourself. But it does have quiet ride, I have mine set so no K band alerts under 35 MPH.

LOL, I didn't say yours did that, just the Uniden. The Uniden you have to push mute 2X, then it learns not to alert you of the same K band radar. It sounds like I would have liked the Passport better. Oh well...

OTOH, what if you drove past a police station 3x, and it learned to ignore a radar gun. ;)

    Not
Not as well as many think. When your radar detector beeps or alerts you that radar is within range, your speed has already displayed on the radar’s screen. There is a caveat; the officer also has to visually see your vehicle. A radar detector is not going to always save you from getting caught.

That's funny, I always see them about a 1/4 mile after it went off. It goes off, and finally I see them approaching, after I had time to check my speed. Sheriffs and local police always have them on, state police not always, but they are trained in visual speed detection, and may have instant on. As far a lazer that is tough, but they have to be stationary on an interstate, and Waze or Highway Radar App usually reports them before they see you.

Also, wiring a switch in series with your brake light circuit makes it so you can slam on the brakes without some Enforcer of Constitutional Violation For Pay behind you seeing you respond with brakes to the radar gun.

Waze is only as good as the people who report the locations. I can tell you for sure, from experience, that the radar sees you before you see the LEO. The speed reading is also matched with what the officer ("they are trained in visual speed detection") visually sees. We had to be able to estimate vehicle speed +/- 5mph of the posted speed limit.

Radar is not lazer it spreads, case in point every time I go past a police station it goes off from a car in the parking lot, not aiming at me.

There is no way they have a fix on me, when the radar is being picked up on the other side of a hill, or around a turn, before either of us is in view.

What is your source that it is only detectable when it's too late?

I learned that the hard way. Years ago, I was merging onto a 35 mph highway, with my 1997 Thunderbird (3.6) after visiting my parents. As soon as I pulled out, there was a local cop coming the other way. He must have had his radar on and clocked me at 45 or 50 mph. He immediately came after me and pulled me over, only one house away from my property. It was embarrassing, but he only gave me a warning. I think that was because I had several "Support our Police" contribution decals on my rear side window.
