Hello all. This morning the 2010 srt8 was showing a red lightning bolt on the dash. It also hesitated once when coming to work. I will be taking it to autozone and seeing what code it shoots out. Any ideas what this could be? What needs to be done to fix it? thx all.
Seems to be something with the Throttle Control. The one site I found indicates the light is yellow, not red. That might be different depending on model years. (??) Look in your owner's manual to confirm. If you don't have the manual, try this. I referenced this site: https://dashboardsymbols.com/2019/06/warning-lights-and-symbols-seen-in-dodge-vehicles/ Also found this explanation: "This light informs you of a problem with the Electronic Throttle Control system. If a problem is detected the light will come on while the engine is running. Cycle the ignition key when the vehicle is completely stopped and the gear selector is in the PARK position. The light should turn off. If the light remains lit with the engine running your vehicle will usually be drivable, however, see your dealer for service as soon as possible. If the light is flashing when the engine is running, immediate service is required and you may experience reduced performance, an elevated/rough idle or engine stall and your vehicle may require towing. The light will come on when the ignition is first turned on and remain on briefly as a bulb check. If the light does not during starting, have the system checked by an authorized dealer." Good luck, give an update when you can.
Is this what you are seeing? If so, it is the electronic throttle control. The electronic throttle control light illuminates when there is an issue with the throttle system. The throttle system includes the throttle body, accelerator pedal, and the wirings between them. The electronic throttle control system control and monitors the position of the throttle. While older vehicles use a cable that’s linked directly to the throttle body, most modern cars accomplish this feat through sensors and your vehicle’s ECM. The most common causes of an electronic throttle control light are a faulty throttle control sensor or a faulty throttle accelerator pedal position sensor. But while those are the most common causes of an electronic throttle light, they aren’t the only things that could be going on. Since you have an SRT, you can display the trouble codes by doing this: Insert key fob. Turn ignition to On, turn back to ACC, turn to On, turn back to ACC, turn to On & leave it there. Any codes will show up in the odometer and then say "done". Once you see the codes, identify them using this site: https://www.obd-codes.com/trouble_codes/ Also, check out this website: https://mechanicbase.com/engine/throttle-control-warning-light/
Great. thanks to you both. I will try that tonight and also going to autozone. i will post codes here later this evening. how much does the repair for this more or less run? thx
It is an expensive repair. The average cost for a throttle body replacement is between $577 and $691.
