Racer X posted an interesting video about street traction. He ran his highly modified 1,000 hp. Charger Hellcat against a 2019 Challenger Scat Pack in a 0-60 mph comparison. He used 305 Nitto 55R and 305 MT Street SS tires. As expected, the 1,000 hp Charger had a hard time putting its power down on the street. As a result, the Scat Pack actually outperformed it. This, of course, would not be the case at a sticky drag strip, where the Hellcat runs mid-9s. Here are the results of his best pulls: 305 Nitto 55R Scat Pack- 4.4 sec. Charger Hellcat- 4.8 sec. 305 MT Street SS Scat Pack- 4.2 sec. Charger Hellcat- 4.2 sec. (Note- 33-35 psi, Sport mode, and 1st and 2nd gear pulls were used. Also it was a 100 F day).
Being able to run a much wider tire and wheel without looking ridiculous is one of the arguments favoring the so called 'wide body'. Wish Dodge had designed something more refined than a bolt on flare (there are some very appealing aftermarket options).
My SXT Plus V6 with a supercharger and custom tune has run a 4.47, and that was with a full tank of gas, subwoofer box in the trunk and 315/35/20 rear tires. If I actually raced, I bet I could scare some Scat drivers.
I cannot get any traction on the street in my SPWB with the all seasons. But it is not why I purchased it.
I think we all have that problem. I do with my 5.7 A8 RT with 245/45R20 all season tires but I was able to fix it. I was going up a hill yesterday where the asphalt was barely damp. No one was near me so I punched the throttle going 35 mph. The tires lost traction immediately and the backend swung out a bit. This was followed by a smack in the head from my wife who told me to "cut that shit out". I waited a couple of seconds and did it again which was followed by another smack in the head. I now wear a football helmet when driving with my wife in the car. Problem solved.
