I found an old car magazine in my attic- Drag Racing USA, May 1971 edition.

In the magazine, there was a cool article entitled, "Mr. 4-Speed." The editors of Drag Racing assembled four stick shift muscle cars- 340 'Cuda, 383 Challenger, Boss 351 Mustang and 454 El Camino- and the greatest stick shift racers- Ronnie Sox, Dick Landy, Don Nicholson and Dave Strickler- to see who could get the best times out of these cars. The winner would be crowned "Mr. 4-Speed."

After each driver made two passes in each of the cars, their eight times were totaled (see chart). The overall winner was Ronnie Cox!

Here were the fastest times recorded for each car:

    340 'Cuda- 14.05 sec. (Strickler)
    383 Challenger- 14.887 sec. (Sox)
Boss 351 Mustang- 13.676 sec. (Sox)
454 El Camino- 14.598 sec. (Sox)
