Anyone who lives in California and buys a car out-of-state should be cautioned. In order to register the car, it must be 50-state certified. Racer X tells the story about a guy who bought a 2023 Challenger Widebody from Gulfgate Dodge in Houston. After spending several thousands of dollars customizing it, he discovered that the car was only 49-state certified and could not register it. The dealership was no help in resolving the red-tape matter and the buyer is screwed. Dodge Dealer Asks Customer to Commit Fraud? Stellantis Refusing to Act! (youtube.com)
It would still be a registered, out of state license. In NY we had the stupid light diesel law, I wanted a new 2006 Jeep Liberty diesel. NY would not allow "New light diesels" to be registered in NY. My wife is from CT, so we used her moms address for a year. A year later it was a used vehicle, and I registered it in NY. Lots of out of state plates visit CA. I would ask the dealer to let me register it with their Texas address. 18 Years later, I still have my Jeep doing chores such as snow plowing, winching, pulling people out of ditches, hauling the dogs around, etc.
The police have nothing better to do than pay attention to Out-of-State vehicles in CA. This is a crime more serious than car theft which is now a misdemeanor or shoplifting less than $900 in goods. I lived in CA for years and they even enforce the Front License Plate law vigorously. It is better to think about moving than to try to comply with CA rules and regulations. And Taxes and other absurdities that exist in that state.
I sure feel sorry for this guy, that`s a lot of money and the stress and aggravation of this is really bad! That's what happens when you live in a communist run state where the government is operated by a bunch of radical power hungry idiots. I can't believe that 49 States have no problem with this vehicle but these communist fools in the Fruit Loop State think they are smarter and better than everyone in 49 other States in America. I have no use for California!!
Yes, and the rules aren't even voted for, just made up by a panel of bureaucrats with their own agenda. The other 49 states eventually comply, when the manufacturers go along with it, instead of making CA pay for the idiotic pollution devices, we all pay.
