I have heard that in the wind, they end up scratching your paint.

I no longer have a garage and have used Covercraft and California outdoor covers for the past 15 years. They seem to last about four years because the strong sunlight does a number on them. I would rather the covers take a beating than my paint. I have minor clearcoat scuffs in some corner spots but faded paint would be much worse.

To keep my cover secure on windy days, I supplement the tie-string and theft-prevention cable with sand-filled plastic food storage bags on each corner of my car. Covers are not ideal, but they are better than nothing.

Here is what my paint looks like after all these years.

Did you ever consider a car port?

Looks like all of your neighbors have garages? Not in the same development?

That's my son's development. Most houses there have 2 and 3-car garages.
