According to Idaho News 6, the driver of speeding Challenger tried negotiating a residential street curve and ended up going off the road. A berm in a front yard launched it into the air. The Challenger vaulted one house, demolishing the top of its chimney and the power mast before it crashed into the roof of the house next door. Thankfully, the woman who was inside the second house was unharmed. That second house where the car landed was left with significant damage. Firefighters put plastic sheeting up to keep the elements out of the interior, but it’s going to take a lot of work to make the structure whole again. Some neighbors apparently also lost electrical service. Inside the car were the driver and two passengers, with the front passenger declared dead at the scene by first responders.
This photo gives you an idea as to how far this Challenger traveled in the air before it landed on the house roof. Look at the two red arrows and X mark (where the Challenger finally landed). It makes you wonder how fast the driver was going for a 4,200 lb. car (plus passengers) to veer off the highway and travel that far in the air.
