I heard of a Challenger owner whose car had a bad center bearing on its two-piece driveshaft. The car sat on the dealer's lot for almost four months until it could get a new driveshaft.

Are you guys afraid that parts for our out-of-production cars will become scarce as they age? Or, are you confident that the after-market industry will fill the void?

That's why they have drive train companies, I deal with two companies where i am located and they can rebuild yours and re balance your drive shaft too. or they will make you one in a couple of days if they do not have one in stock, and they sell and make drive axles for FWD and steering racks also . so back to car parts for example you can build a brand new (1971 cuda) if you want one. I do not think anybody in this forum will have to worry about parts in our lifetime. If anybody wants contact info please let me know , enjoy

With the way our cars are crashed all the time, should be plenty of salvage parts. And yeah the aftermarket should help. Sprinters have a 3 piece driveshaft, and I believe it was Dorman or Moog that makes a complete replacement unit. It's a better one too, with zerk fittings so you can lube it.

Personally not going to worry about it, until I have to cross that bridge.

I once put a gear splitter in a truck, I have a place right across the river 25 minutes away, that modded, and balanced the drive shafts.

Remember the good old days, we used to replace U joints, and carrier bearing, now everything is disposable.

The main issue with the center bearing is the rubber mount that holds the assembly in place. But this has not been much of an issue with the auromatic cars.
There is a company JBX that makes a brace that goes around the bearing to hold it secure so the rubber does not fail. Plus, you don't have to pull the shaft out to install it.

Or another option is to get an aftermarket one piece driveshaft.

The thing I wonder about is the electronic parts which there are plenty of on these cars! Just have to wait and see!

Keep it dry, drive it dry, prevent corrosion.
