    Sometimes you can outsmart yourself.

A case in point occurred at last month's Toyota/Save Mart 350 (Sonoma Raceway).

Martin Truex, Jr. was battling Kevin Harvick and Clint Bower for the race win, when his crew chief faked a radio message. He told Truex "on the next time by" to pit for tires and fuel. This message was intercepted by Harvick and Bower's pit crews. To keep pace with Truex, they had their drivers pit. However, at the last instant, Truex's pit chief reversed course and radioed Truex to "stay out and go nine more." Truex actually pitted several laps later and had fresher tires for the finishing laps and the eventual win.

Pretty slick. His car's sponsor is Bass Pro Shops and he really hooked the competition. :l
