Here is a bar bet that you could easily win. How many car models had the Challenger name prior to the advent of the iconic 1970 muscle car?

    Answer: Two

    Details:

The first time the name was used was in 1959 for the "value version" of the Silver Coronet.

Five years later, in 1964, Studebaker applied it to a 1964 model in its lineup, as it was phasing out the Lark name. The brand was gone two years later.

    Wow. What a beauty. Not.
'59 may have been a good year for some things... (I was born that year o_O)... but it was not a good year for automobiles. Case in point:

    '59 Edsel
    59Edsel.jpg Ewww.

    '59 Impala
    59Impala.jpg Yuck.

    '59 ElCamino
    59ElCamino.jpg ouch!

    '59 Oldsmobile
59Olds.jpg Bad ass. No, I mean literally, a bad ass end.

    '59 Plymouth
59Plymouth.jpg and I'm a Mopar lover, but those fins gotta go!

There were a few good ones. My Dad had a Chrysler Imperial with a 392. It had both luxury and power.

It may have had luxury. It may have had power. But it didn’t have looks! LOL :Big Laugh:
