Keeping the inside of an 11 inch wheel clean has always been a challenge. To really get in there I find my hands work best, but it tears up my knuckles and is not easy. Would love to hear how you guys tackle this problem effectively and how often. What do you use and how well does it work? The more detail the better. Thanks!
Some guys use wheel cleaning brushes, like the one pictured below. The spokes on my SRT wheels are wide enough so that I can use my hands (with occasional skinned knuckles).
When ever the wheels come off I give them a thorough cleaning Otherwise I reach in with a microfibre cloth and get what I can I don’t get near the amount of brake dust with Power Stop pads so it’s not as dirty as when I had the Brembo pads.
I'm fretting about the back sides of my Red Brembos at the moment until I yank the wheels off eventually and protect them properly. I know you can't see that side but I want them as nice as possible. Like stated, so difficult to get to. My old hands/knuckles don't heal as fast as they used to.
1. Buy a REFRIGERATOR COIL BRUSH. This brush has a long bendable handle and bristle type brush ends. 2. Put electrical tape on the bendable handle so the steel wires don't wreck your wheels. 3. Dip the bristle into a can of ORANGE SMOOTH hand cleaner. 4. The ORANGE helps you see the areas you have cleaned. 5. No substitute for removing wheel and cleaning yourself...unless you can get your wife to get underneath your car and behind your wheels to reach into the wheels with her petite well manicured hands.
I only cleaned one wheel by taking it off. I figured that was all I needed for the inside of a satin black wheel, for visuals, anyway. Then I just did the spokes and as far in as I could conveniently reach with my microfiber cloth. If one were to ceramic coat the entire wheel, it would be easier to clean, I guess. Or polished and chromed. Chrome is the hardest metal element. Also, IronX to convert specks of iron-based dust to purple goo that can be easily washed off with a cloth and soap etc.
