    I remember when I built a 305 in my 84 Trans-Am and got it to around 320 hp. I thought that was amazing back in 1991.

    Back in the "old days" if you could get 1 horsepower per cubic inch, you had a bad ass engine and it took a lot of work to get there.

    That's why the 6.1 SRT engine was such a big deal. With only 371 cubic inches (6.1 liters), it produced 425 hp., or 1.15 hp. per cubic inch.
