135K miles 2013 V6. I had a bad rocker in my engine last year. When they opened it up it was only one but I had everything replaced with updated OEM parts last year. I believe it caused a bank 2 cat failure. I got the code and when they took the cat off it showed chemical wear. It wasn't blocked and my engine ran fine. The exhaust shop cut and welded the replacement on. Code came back this time the sensor below the same cat was bad. Replaced sensor and code came back. I asked mech and said he used a used sensor because we were literally in a blizzard and couldn't get a part at all. So, I went and bought a new cat and 2 new sensors he will put on. My question is I read that it wasn't ok to cut out and weld another cat on my car. Something about "newer" cars with manifolds need the entire pipe which I was going to do but for 2 thousand it wasn't ok. I wasn't happy about the recycled cat they used or the sensor but considering I had no idea if my cat was plugged I decided it was best to get it in ASAP and of course the snow impacted the ability to get any parts for days. Do people Routinely weld cats on? Also I ordered a Magnaflow from Autozone. You can't get OEM now. I have heard goof and bad things. My sensors were OEM for my specific car I have ordered. Idk what experiences people have had with this issue. Good or bad experiences? Am I making a mistake not replacing the entire exhaust on that side? Car garaged whole life and maintained, and I don't work so the miles have been mostly highway and I purchased it new. In it's history the engine and this have been the only 2 issues I have ever had. It's a pretty nice car I sprang for upgrades inside and I love it. I plan, when the economy is better and I have to garage it for good, to have a hemi put in it. But as for now I need it to be a reliable car and this to me seems like a relatively easy fix compared to other things I have seen mess up on cars. Or maybe I'm wrong.
It seems like they can install flanges on the cats and the exhaust in order to bolt them in, but welding would likely be required there somewhere.
2013 V6 What? I am assuming a Challenger. If that's the case, I probably would have looked for a whole used cat from the head down @ a junk yard or online.
