Has anyone encountered severe rust in the stub axle ring with implanted magnets? This is what Dodge uses instead of a tone wheel. It is located on the stub axle and feeds pulses to the ABS sensor in the hub. When the stub axle rusts, the rubber separates, and the ABS and TC stop working. This is more prevalent on cars, over 30,000 miles, that are driven in rust belt states. Unfortunately, the only solution is to replace the axle.
No, this is the first I've heard of it and I'm in the salty rust belt. Gee, another reason to remember to renew the extended warranty contract when it's up on my car.
I know this is an old post, but I wanted to search before I posted. I have a 2010 SE and the dash is lit up like Christmas. ABS, ESC, and TCS light illuminated. Mechanic replaced LF/RR ABS sensors, but are not reading on the scanner. I've debated replacing both front hubs (integrated tone rings) and new tone rings on the rear. I read the tone rings can be purchased from American Muscle for the rear, but how are they a installed? Also, are they actually available on the 2010 SE model? I keep reading conflicting information online and some even state the entire half shaft needs replaced to replace the tone rings. Thanks
