Should I go with the V6 or the V8?

    Hello everyone,

I'm new here (first post) and was hoping you guys would help me in the future purchase of a Challenger. I expect to get one within 3 or 4 months (once winter subsides) but am constantly going back and forth as to getting the SXT or RT.

The biggest advantages to the SXT are obviously the price and gas mileage. If I went with the SXT I would probably get the Redline, which I noticed is about $500 away from the RT model, so price isn't too different there. But how is the gas mileage from both? I currently get about 17 mpg average with my car now, and would really be looking for an upgrade from that.

I would be using this car as a daily driver. To and from work and other events, and will possibly be driving this during the snowy winter next year. Looking for all the suggestions I can get here.

    Thanks!

A friend just got back from a trip and rented a V-6 300 with the new 8 spd tranny
and was not impressed with it, not sure if the new Chally's have this or not,
best to test drive both. My R/T gets 27 on Hwy and about 16 in the city, of course
it all depends how heavy of a foot you have as far as mileage goes. As far as winter
driving goes it all depends on the quality of snow tire you put on it. I see even SRT8's
as daily drivers in the winter.

Prices for the SXT & R/T are very close. The gas mileage is also pretty close. By getting an R/T you get a V8 and 370hp. Your right foot will determine your actual mpg. I have a friend who put over 120K on their Challenger as a daily driver in 2 years. Have fun with your Chally no matter what edition you get.

I get better gas mileage on my V8 Chally than I did on my old V6 (Isuzu Ascender).

Get the R/T. Mileage is not much worse than the 3.6 and you will have Hemi power. Although the Pentastar is a fine engine, a true musclecar must have a V8.

    Test drive both and decide.

    Hello, welcome to forums..

Id definetly would choose RT since V8 is more realible motor, I've heard that chryslers V6's are really unrealible.. I have SRT and it doesnt take gas so much if I dont push the car hard...

In the town it takes about 12-14litres per 100km..
My 5series bmw is with 2.5 litre motors and the average fuel consumption is about 8-10 litres per 100km..

So not so big difference comparing to 6.1 litre Challenger..

    GET THE V8 !!

Isn't the whole point of getting a muscle car to enjoy the rumble and performance of a gas guzzling V8? Maybe I'm missing something here... :)

A Lot of car companies measures their cars on miles per gallon..
But what kind of miles are we talking here ? Miles that past by unnoticed,
    boring miles ?
Or are they adrenalin pumping, highway tearing, peacemaker triggering,
rubber burning, movie car chase miles ?

Rallye Redline is best looking challenger right now IMO
    lots to consider of course...
ANY challenger is a good car and they each have pluses and minuses depending on needs and wants.
