It depends on how much money you want to spend.

You can pick up an inexpensive toolkit from Harbor Freight for only $29. (25% off sale ends today).

    Tool Set with Case, 130-Piece

I have a cheap set like that as well, plus tire plugs for those of us with no spare.

I already have several big tool boxes and tools to pick from. Do I need every wrench from 5mm to 25mm? The same for sockets, standard and deep? Allen wrenches, torx, hammers, punches or anything else. I don't want a ton of tools, but what may be necessary.

All you need is a cell phone and a wrecker service at our age. if you do not have a electric air pump , get one and also a battery jump starter. And you are all set.

I think it really depends on what you want to do for repairs ..

    Don't f**k around. You need a shop! :33:
    Workbench.jpg

    At a bare minimum:
    * Complete mechanic's tool set with open-end/box-end wrenches, 1/2, 3/8, & 1/4 drive sockets in both metric and SAE
    * Air compressor and 1/2" impact gun and 3/8" air rachet.
    * Various code readers and scanners
    * Refrigeration gauges and A/C tools
    * Floor jacks, jack stands, various power tools, grease gun, Dremel, torque wrenches
    * Oxy-Acetylene torch set (optional)

Yeah, I know I'm half crazy, but I'd die of boredom if I didn't have a garage to work in!!! :Big Laugh:

No acetylene or refrigeration stuff here, but most tools you mentioned.

I will attempt doing some of the repairs oil changes, differential fluids, brakes.
    ECT.

Though I wish I had a car lift.

Heh, heh, EVERYBODY wishes they had a car lift! :)
I was looking at the ones from QuickJack a while back, but they range in price from $1500 to over $2000, and that’s more than I really want to spend. Everything I’ve needed to do so far could be done with floor jacks and jack stands. Plus, I have a limited amount of space so figuring out where to put them when not in use is a challenge, too.
