A 1969 Dodge Daytona, raced by country legend Marty Robbins, is being auctioned off at Mecum.

Is is just me or is this a horrible paint scheme?

Compare this to the classic Petty Superbird.

As a side note, here is a highly informative video comparing the differences between a Dodge Daytona and a Plymouth Superbird.

They are such beautifully designed cars I am not sure that there are any bad color schemes.
Those were his colors for the most part back in the day. Kyle Larson had a tribute Camaro recently to honor the late Marty Robbins, mostly for his saving the life of Richard Childress in 1974 at Charlotte. I attached a photo of the Camaro along with some of Robbins other cars he raced when not singing.
I saw him race numerous times at Daytona when I lived in Florida. He wasn't a Petty, Allison, or Pearson caliber racer but still had some Top 10 finishes.

Kyle Larson is driving the No. 5 for Hendrick, Ross Chastain is driving the No. 42 for Chip Ganassi this year.

Chastain drove it a couple weeks ago with that paint scheme as well.

Loved that paint scheme for Marty Robbins. Iconic to say the least. When I was in SIM racing back when NASCAR 95 and the years afterward, even up until I started doing the Iracing thing, I always used that paint job on several cars. I have painted a ton of cars for the SIM racing community and this one is one of my favorites. Will try to find some pics of the ones I painted like this.

This Superbird set a record at Bonneville, in 1987, when it went 216.382 mph.
