Hi, I have 2015 Challenger RT Scat Pack. This has the square Key Fob (no "nose" on it) My question is, if the battery in my Fob is dead, how do I start the car? My 2014 Rt had the other type Fob, you could pop off the start button and use is similar to an old style key, but, as I said...this Fob is totally square. I know how to remove the metal key part from the Fob, but, can this be used to start n run my car? I realize its all brand new now...but, when that day comes - dead Fob battery- what do I do? Thanks, James.
Just replace the battery. It is very simple. See: http://www.challengerforum.com/f34/how-replace-key-fob-battery-your-challenger-329/
I should have added, If the Fob battery dies and I'm out in middle of nowhere, and do not have a spare battery. What type of battery is it anyway? Also, this just hit me. What it the fob battery died and I was not in the car, and the car is locked? thanks James
I've been thinking about your problem, and so far, every idea wouldn't work. I thought, just have an extra in the car, then realizing that it's not going to help if you're locked out. So then I thought having the wife or girlfriend (or both) keep one in their purse. But again, no help if they aren't with you. So my answer would be, change the battery before you need to. Say once a year. Maybe between Thanksgiving and Christmas, as it seems that's when they ship and stock a lot of fresh batteries. Or when you change the smoke detector batteries at home.
why won't any of these work? the manual says if battery is dead, used the key instead of your finger to start the car... why won't this work? ALSO, there is a key hole in the door, so the metal extract from the fob should work...! why would it not? if u out your spare key in the car, it won't ever lock. try leaving your keys on the seat, or even the trunk... nohing will lock... it knows you "left your keys in he car" and protects you. can you explain you line of thinking in detail,,?
Key Fob I knew you could unlock the door with the key but I wondered about being able to start the car. Here's what I found in the owner's manual... The Keyless Ignition Node (KIN System) has four operating positions, three of which are labeled and will illuminate when in position. The three positions are: OFF, ACC, and ON/RUN. The fourth position is START. During start, ON/RUN will illuminate. NOTE: In case the ignition does not change with the push of a button, the RKE transmitter (Key Fob) may have a low or dead battery. In this situation, a back up method can be used to operate the ignition switch. Put the nose side (side opposite of the emergency key) of the Key Fob against the Engine START/STOP button and push to operate the ignition. Key Fob The Key Fob also contains the Remote Keyless Entry (RKE) transmitter and an emergency key, which stores in the rear of the Key Fob. The emergency key allows for entry into the vehicle should the battery in the vehicle or the Key Fob go dead. The emergency key is also for locking/unlocking the glove compartment. You can keep the emergency key with you when valet parking.
Just pop out the button and put the square end of the fob in the hole. Even if the battery in the fob is dead this acts as a key and allows you to start the car. Many guys were never told about the button because it was packaged in the glove box when buying a new car and that's how they started and drove their cars until they found out.
