How does the shaker work driving in a heavy rain ? will it soak the air filter or anything inside of the shaker & hood opening ? how about those powerful drive in car washes where the water nozzels spray harder with good force not only over the car but lowers the spray bar down to spray the grill & bumpers. they then raise up and rotate and would spray water right into the holes on the front of the shaker scoop, should I pack the opening with rags to keep water from being forced into the shaker openings ?
That's an interesting question. The original shaker on the 70-71 Challengers and 'Cudas had a manually controlled air flap located behind the scoop's grill to keep out water. It also had two drain holes connected to two rubber tubes on the underside of the shaker.
Haven't seen one to take a close look at the intake system. My T/A hood has a small hole where a tube can be put in to drain the water away. ( I have yet to put in the tube, but the hole is there.)lol
I should have taken pictures as I had mine taken apart to install a Petty front strut brace yesterday. Next time, I'll post some.
I had to swap my air intake tube and installed my catch can so here are a few pictures of the shaker base. There are 3 drains (red circles) that channel the water away before it can raise to a level high enough to go in the CAI, in the right rear. Hope this helps..
Have had my shaker hood for about 2 months and several rain storms and haven't had any problems with it
Driving in the rain If you take of the filter you will see a triangular tube it runs straight drown to the bottom . So if any excessive amount of water gets in thats where it will go, and also there are drain holes in the base portion of the shaker.
