Welcome.......Do you remember the sticker price of that then new '69 Road Runner? I am going to guess about 3 grand unless it had a 426 Hemi and that would push the MSRP to over 4 grand. A lot of money in '69, hardly a down payment these days.
It was $4,148.65. It was a 383 but loaded for a Road Runner. I still have the window sticker. It was special ordered by a kid who left for Viet Nam and never picked it up. The dealer had to drop the price a LOT to get us to buy it.
Thanks for sharing. This will give some of our younger members a little insight on how it was back then. Just before I went into the army the summer of '67 we went to a local Ford dealer to look at a then new Ford Cobra. 427 CID 4 speed with a sticker price of around $7500. How much money was that in '67? One could go to the Chevy dealer down the street and purchase two new Corvettes for the price of that Ford Cobra. That must have been one very well equipped Road Runner. The Road Runner was a very popular car back then as they were seen everywhere. I tried to buy a used '68 the summer of '71 but I was denied credit. The one that I wanted was the Hemi Orange 383 4 speed. I took it and the salesman for a test drive that he probably still remembers, I suppose. I knew some guys that paid around $3200 for a new Road Runner back then and were lucky if the car came with power steering. A friend of mine paid $1950 for a '70 Road Runner 440 6 Pack 4 speed the summer of '71 and the car did not have power steering. I bet it was more than a handful to parallel park.
