I caught some slack a while back when I was thinking about using an oil additive. Do any of you regularly use oil or gas additives? I know that with only 8700 miles on my 2017 there's probably not much varnish build up, etc., but I want to keep it that way. Do any of you use products as a preventative, or do you just run pump gas and leave it at that?
Got close to 200k on both my wife's 5.7 Hemi Jeep, and my Y2K V10 Ram just running on Castrol Synthetic. I go run a round of "HEAT" through them once a year in the spring to get the water out of the tank and clean up the injectors, but just once a year. Just keep up a good Oil Change routine, and you will be fine.
as far as gas additives go, I use either Lucas or Seafoam fuel treatment, around ever 3-4 tanks intervals.
Fuel treatment is one thing, oil additive is another. I have always been against a long time additive to my oil. If you want to run seafoam through your engine for a day or so, fine, I'm okay with that and then drain the oil and change it, but I have always been against any type of oil additive.
back in the day. . . . . We just ran a quart of ATF in the oil for about 100 miles before an oil change. Especially on a used car, with unknown oil change history. Now days, the NEW Synthetic oils and the tighter tolerance engines don't see any need for oil additives.
I can remember pouring some auto trans fluid down the carb to get the valves to free up and remove the carbon, smoked like hell. didn't have any problems with mosquitoes when we did that....lol
Lol, One of my 426 sparkplug tubes would leak oil in and cause a misfire a couple times a year. When I pulled the sparkplug it would drain the oil into the engine and cause the same effect.
I don't use additives. Top Tier detergent gasolines have a nice additive package (see link, below). I use Valero 93 octane in my 2009 SRT and it runs great. Also, I use Mobil 1 full synthetic. Ditto on the Top Tier, 93 octane. Back in the good old days, a little Marvel Mystery Oil in the gas and the oil.
