On March 31st I placed my order for a '21 Scat Pack Widebody in Octane Red. At the time, I was told to expect the car in May. Then, I found out that the Brampton Ontario plant was shut down for an undefined period of time due to semiconductor shortages.
On April 17th, the dealer called and told me the car had been issued a VIN number, and was scheduled to be built in the last week of April.
Apparently it then takes 25 to 35 days to get the car from Brampton to Phoenix by rail. There is a shortage of available rail cars, I'm told. Looks like the car should be here in early June.
Anyway, I thought I'd post this in case anyone else is waiting on a recently ordered Challenger. Evidently, the plant is open again, and they are building cars once more.

A Dodge service manager told me that Dodge corporate is going to delete specific options that rely on the unobtainable chips. He also said that they no longer give new car buyers 2 x key fobs. 1 x fob per vehicle only.

Why is it a big deal to give out 2 fobs? Shouldn't cost them that much to do.

I heard it costs Dodge owners over $400 to get a replacement fob.

Now would be a great time for the USA to return to self-sufficiency by manufacturing computer chips. That's not going to happen, since the USA needs to ensure steady employment for Chinese workers.

As I am in the electronics design and manufacturing industry, I have been dealing with semiconductor shortages for the last 16 months or so. There have been two factories that burned, then we have global shipping delays and lack of containers and vessels, and to make things worse, when the world went into lockdown last year, there was a 71% increase in the purchases of personal electronics, so folks could work from home.

However, it's not ALL IC's and semiconductors that are in short supply, but primarily the large microprocessors used in our ECU's and infotainment systems (which were built in one of the burned factories) that's causing the shortage. Things are slowly coming back online, production is shifting to alternative factories, and experts predict the shortages will be over in the next 6 months.

There are currently no shortages of parts used in the FOB's. There have been shipping delays in getting those parts distributed, for sure. And I can assure you, there is no way that FOB costs Dodge anywhere near 40 dollars, let alone 400. I was part of a team that designed a similar proximity transmitter for a branch of the military, and I know what that one cost, and it was a damn sight better engineered than the Dodge one. The bill of materials for the Dodge FOB is likely under 20 bucks.

Thanks! I edited my comment for correct content. I was parroting what I was told by a Dodge service manager. Two manufacturing facilities destroyed by fire? o_O
