Today was oil change day for my 2015 Challenger SRT 392 ... Even though it had only traveled a little less than 1,200 miles in the past 6 months and still showed 81% Oil Life.

I've read articles (like this one from Popular Mechanics https://www.popularmechanics.com/cars/car-technology/a24676402/old-motor-oil/ ) that - like our Owner's Manual - also advocate changing your oil at least twice each year ... also known as every 6 months.

Someday I'll track down one of the Dodge engineers and ask about the "6 Months" part of the oil change intervals guidelines so I can hear it from the horse's mouth. And what's different about the 392ci/6.4L engine that its interval is not to exceed 6,000 miles/6-months compared to the 345ci/5.7L engine that has an interval not to exceed 10,000 miles/12-months.

    Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0W-40 - 6qts - $45 from an Amazon seller
Pennzoil Ultra Platinum 0W-40 - 1qt - $11.15 from NAPA (after my 10% AAA Discount)
Mopar SRT #041 Oil Filter - $14.98 ("free" by using my Amazon Prime points)

So ... I'm all-in at $71 and have the satisfaction of knowing that it was done right.

It is a nice 'peace of mind' thing but I go one year intervals if I stay under 2,000 miles. I've had an air cooled 911 and a C6 in the past with no issues, but then again, no miles on them either. I really doubt I was hurting the engine with the one year interval. I'll do the same with my R/T when the free oil changes expire.

Oil builds up with acid in the crankcase from even lower mileage usage, that’s the reason for 6 month intervals regardless of mileage

    LoL @ you guys
If I didn't drive my SRT at least 1000 miles a month, I might as well SELL IT

I drive my 2015 scat as often as I can, every day to work, on long trips for vacation, and to nowhere just because. It has a little over 47000 miles on it now. When the snow flies I drive my 09 ram, 121000 miles. What I drive mostly depends on road conditions.

    I hear ya!

I bought my car to be my daily driver and used it that way in 2018. And, I put about 19,000 miles on it that year and loved every mile.

Then my mom decided that 97 year old women shouldn't drive and handed me the keys to her '05 Monte Carlo. So ... since I suddenly had access to another car ... I let the Monte Carlo risk the parking lot dings and the red light runners.

And, yes, when the used car market was super hot a few months ago, I gave consideration to taking the money and letting someone else put some miles on it.

The money got tempting. And I don't drive the car nearly enough. But when it came down to it ... I couldn't do it. I enjoy the car too much when I do drive it.

Besides ... I'd eventually buy another one and this one's already paid for.

Is the socket size to remove the oil drain plug 10 mm? How about the size of bolts to remove bottom tray covering engine?
