Chrysler tire pressure monitoring system sensor problems have caused a recall of more than 52,300 model year 2022 Dodge Challengers, Dodge Chargers and Chrysler 300s.

According to Fiat Chrysler (FCA), the tire pressure monitoring system sensor battery may fail and cause the sensor to fail.

In May, FCA was notified of possible tire pressure monitoring sensor problems on 2022 Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 cars. Specifically, the sensors have batteries that can discharge prematurely and cause the sensors to fail.

This creates a violation of federal safety standards.

"If the TPMS light illuminates because the battery in the sensor prematurely discharges, it could mask an actual low tire pressure condition, possibly resulting in tire failure, which can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning." — Chrysler

Dealerships will replace the tire pressure monitoring system sensors once recall notices are mailed September 2, 2022.

Dodge Challenger, Dodge Charger and Chrysler 300 owners may call 800-853-1403 and use recall number Z68.

Remember the old days, when we used to just keep an eye on our tires and check them with a pressure gauge once in a while? And we’d listen to our car while we drove and could tell if something sounded off? And we knew how to fix stuff? And… and… and…

I know, old age and senility are tough to live with. o_O

Haha you're absolutely right! Modern TPMS are a nice addition, in that you can monitor individual tire pressures. And they might help you save a few seconds by giving you an early warning before you feel or hear it. But, they're not necessary. Just another added cost by the government, to protect the few who have no clue. I know every sound my car makes. And if something is off, I know. And on top of all that - if you have a true blowout, NO TPMS is gonna save your ass. Only driving experience, capability of handling your car and reaction time.

Anyone have a complete argument with the dealer over this recall? It's in the wording to test and replace, if necessary.

I'm arguing yes, ok, you have tested now and it's working but what about in 6 months if it fails and I get no warning. I want all my sensors replaced on my 22 R/T.

Am I wrong? They refuse to replace and just tested. I even had to ask how they tested. The tech just looked at the dash, there was no warning, so he said they are good ...bullshit that's the problem. They fail and don't give any indication that they have.

Here is the Recall Notice, ZB5/NHTA 22V-808. Apparently not all 2022 Challengers have the defective batteries. The recall notice states that "your dealer will inspect all the TPMS sensors and replace any if needed."

If the batteries in your sensors prematurely discharge, your TPMS warning light will appear.

IMPORTANT SAFETY RECALL Tire Pressure Monitor Sensors Dear [Name], This notice is sent to you in accordance with the National Traffic and Motor Vehicle Safety Act. FCA US LLC has decided that certain [2022 Model Year (LA) Dodge Challenger, (LD) Dodge Charger and (LX) Chrysler 300] vehicles fail to conform to Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 571.138 states that "...each vehicle must be equipped with a tire pressure monitor system" that detects "when one or more of a vehicles tire is significantly under-inflated and illuminates a low tire pressure warning telltale." The tire pressure system in the suspect vehicles may not detect low tire pressure. It is extremely important to take steps now to repair your vehicle to ensure the safety of you and your passengers.

WHY DOES MY VEHICLE NEED REPAIRS? The Tire Pressure Monitor System (TPMS) sensors on your vehicle [1] may prematurely discharge its battery, making the TPMS sensor inoperative. If the TPMS light illuminates because the battery in the sensor prematurely discharges, it could mask an actual low tire pressure condition, possibly resulting in tire failure, which can cause a vehicle crash without prior warning.

HOW DO I RESOLVE THIS IMPORTANT SAFETY ISSUE? FCA US will repair your vehicle [2] free of charge (parts and labor). To do this, your dealer will inspect all the TPMS sensors and replace any if needed. The estimated repair time is about 2 hours. In addition, your dealer will require your vehicle for proper check-in, preparation, and check-out during your visit, which may require more time. Your time is important to us, so we recommend that you schedule a service appointment to minimize your inconvenience. Please bring this letter with you to your dealership.

TO SCHEDULE YOUR FREE REPAIR, CALL YOUR CHRYSLER, DODGE, JEEP OR RAM DEALER TODAY.

WHAT IF I ALREADY PAID TO HAVE THIS REPAIR COMPLETED? If you have already experienced this specific condition and have paid to have it repaired, you may visit www.fcarecallreimbursement.com to submit your reimbursement request online. [3] Once we receive and verify the required documents, reimbursement will be sent to you within 60 days. If you have had previous repairs performed and/or already received reimbursement, you may still need to have the recall repair performed. We apologize for any inconvenience, but are sincerely concerned about your safety. Thank you for your attention to this important matter. Customer Assistance/Field Operations FCA US LL
