Parking out in the boonies might appear to be smart, but it really isn't. Take our strip mall at Subway. There is a line facing the store fronts. Then a double row in the middle of the lot and a single row furthest out. I park there at lunch. Trouble is, I am the only car in that row and people don't see a single car and wham! bumped my back bumper and cracked the bumper a few inches. I ran some paint down the crack where the white inside plastic shows and it isn't too bad, but not new any more.

So the lady from the next store buys a HO Dart with black racing stripes and parks near where I park and last week someone backed out of the middle row and hit her so hard she pushed her 8 feet off the pavement into the bushes. Real damage. The bumper is all scratched, the grille and hood had slight dents (less than a pencil, but still dented). How's that for a 2 week old car? She was the only one in that row that day til I got there.

A couple of years back I was at school (work) and I was in a similar shaped lot. 1 - 2 in the middle - 1 So I parked in the middle at the very end. The lot wasn't full, so I was all alone on the end. A F250 was in the single rows and just backed up without looking. I'll bet it there were numerous cars or it was filled, when he walked to his car he would have known that cars were behind him. But now, wham! He pushed my bumper in and bent the trunk. $1,400 damage. He must have pulled out of his stall a vengeance.

So, it really doesn't pay to park in the boonies.

I don't think the same strategy will work for everyone. I guess it just depends on where you live or work. My old boss had a Charger which he parked behind the building. They ended up breaking into it. No one is safe from jerks, though.

I used to park my '70 in two parking spots. But it was always way in the back where nobody parked anyway. The one time I didn't, I came back to find some dudes door open into my ride. There was about a quarter sized paint chip being held on by my R/T stripe. I was not a happy camper.

I don't like the two parking space idea, always a chance it will trip someone's trigger and they'll do something stupid out of spite. I do always park way, way out away from anyone even if it means parking in a completely different parking lot. I've done the same thing with my pickup that is now 7 years old and doesn't have a scratch or door ding on it anywhere.

Lot of people have no respect for other peoples property and look at cars as nothing more than an appliance to get from a to b.

This used to be me. I respect people's property but I thought of cars as "tools." I'm so ashamed...

Tom has horrible bad luck - not typical - he even gets his car dented parked in his own garage. There are no good Parking Spaces anywhere when he's involved !

    Your results may vary.

If I'm worried about dings I always try to park next to car that's worth more than mine - Porsche, Ferrari, or a new Challenger.
