    Hello all.

My wife ran over a curb and scratched the rim. Not to bad but it's scratched. Short of taking it to a body shop where they will charge an arm and a leg. do I just sand it and paint it?

if so, what type of sanding paper and what type of paint?

They are after market hellcat rims.

    Thanks.

The repair process is sanding, probably starting with something like 600-800 grit and move up gradually to 3000+ grit, then a two/three step polish. You can mask and clear it or straight coat it at that point.

I wouldn’t recommend tackling this yourself unless you have some understanding and experience how to sand and polish paint. A wheel repair company usually can do this type of repair on site for about $200.

However, if you are set on doing it yourself, this link may also help.

No, I haven't seen it. I was just providing some information on how to deal with a scratched wheel. As I told him, a professional rim repair shop is advisable.

without seeing it it could be a simple repair and we do this, to save the member money i have access to a company that specializes all rims and you are looking @ 25% - 50% from what a wheel new would cost, and they balance the wheel when finished and check for trueness also . A picture would help.

If you clean it up yourself consider a spray clear coat as well.

You can match up your wheel color here and buy a bottle of touch-up paint.

After you remove the scratches, use good quality primer and color base coat.
Then get a can of clear 2K clear spray paint.

It is as close to a body shop finish because it has hardener/activator in it. You punch the bottom valve in the can to add the hardener.
