I have been using Liquid Glass Polish for 35 years. A fantastic product as are the other Liquid Glass offerings. I just put coat 6 on my 2015 Challenger today. The best example I have of what LG can do is the 2001 Ram I just traded in on my 2015 Ram. It had over 75 coats of LG on it and looked like a show truck after 14 years and over 100K miles. Check out the photo of the truck finish just before I traded it. It will take me a while to get to that point on the Challenger but I am working on it.

If anyone is interested, I can post my recommendations on how to use LG products.

Pretty nice. What kind of products do you use to apply it?

Here are my recommendations based on 35 years of experience with Liquid Glass products

    1. Liquid Glass Pre-Cleaner: Start by washing the car with any good car wash. The Pre-Cleaner will take care of everything the wash does not. I don’t use clay bar and never have with LG products. It would not hurt to do so but it is not necessary. The Pre-Cleaner is the most important step to take BEFORE the 1st coat of LG. You only have to use the pre-cleaner once as long as you keep using only LG. It will remove any surface residue and old waxes and will make the first coat of LG easier to apply. It also chemically prepares the surface so that the initial and subsequent coats of LG polish will bond properly. You want a clean base to start with so multiple coats of LG Polish will build up and stay there If you apply a wax or other type of polish over existing coats of LG then you must once again use the Pre-Cleaner before putting on another coat of LG.

    2. Liquid Glass Protectant: Recommend using LG Protectant on all the black plastic before using the polish. It is incredible stuff and will prevent any of the Pre-Cleaner or Polish from sticking. The protectant lasts easily for 3 months. Bugs will not stick to black plastic if treated recently with the LG protectant. I use the protectant on the plastic on the front of all my vehicles here in FL during “love bug” season. You can remove the bugs easily with just a damp paper towel.

    3. Liquid Glass Polish: The first coat of polish will take the most time. Subsequent coats will be easy. I work in the shade or garage with the temp between 55 and 80 degrees.

    a. Apply to the entire car or one section at a time using a damp washcloth (I wet the cloth and ring it out real good before using). LG recommends back and forth movements to apply but I use circular with no problem. (No need for an electric buffer to apply. If you get ANY grit on the wheel, you will get minor surface scratches or swirls with any polish).

    b. The polish will dry to a haze in a few minutes. Buff off with a dry terri-towel. Shake the towel off periodically as you might get a little dust from time to time. If you get a lot of dust you are using too much polish. After you are finished remove any polish dust left on the car with a damp terri-towel or California Duster. You can use LG on the glass as well but NOT the windshield (makes the wipers squeak). Use on the wheels and exhaust tips as well.

    c. The real benefit from LG comes from multiple coats. They build up and begin to look like an extra coat of clear lacquer after about 10 coats. It will not hurt to put on multiple coats in succession (one per day). The instructions say to allow 4 hours between coats. However, over the years, I have had much better results with allowing more time (typically a week) between coats to make sure the previous coat of LG is completely cured and hardened. This is particularly true in cooler weather. LG hardens much more quickly in high temperatures. The hotter it gets, the harder LG becomes. Putting the car in the sun will really speed up the curing and hardening process. The harder it gets, the shinier it gets and provides better protection. Other car polishes break down in the heat. This is a major difference that makes LG Polish so much better than other products.

    d. Do not use LG Polish on matte vinyl stripes. If you do you are trying to shine a surface that was not meant to be shiny. The result may be a blotchy appearance. LG Polish works great for glossy stripes or other decals.

    e. If you are just starting out with LG Polish, 5 initial coats is followed by once a month until you get 10 coats is a good plan. Then go to once per quarter. I am a fanatic and do a lot more when a car is new. During the summer, I will frequently put extra coats of LG Polish just on the front of the car and mirror (parts most likely to be hit by bugs and stones) for additional protection. It only takes a few minutes and will make bug cleanup very easy.

    4. Liquid Glass Detail Spray: Great for touch up between LG Polish jobs or before car shows. I do not recommend using another brand of detail spray with LG. You will contaminate the surface and make the next coat of LG Polish less effective. My cars are always garaged. Sometimes I just remove the dust with a California Duster and then use the detail spray as a waterless car wash. That may horrify some people and they will tell you that you risk scratching he paint on the car. However, with multiple coats of cured, hardened, LG on a car, it is almost impossible to scratch the finish using this method. The detail spray works well on matte stripes.

Thanks for the DIY! Some good info... I may give this stuff a try on my Challenger.
