Unless you're drag racing, I doubt you'd "feel" any difference. Spacers were widely used on carbureted engines for two reasons. They gave a thermal break from the hot intake manifold for a cooler fuel charge and the added distance from the carb to the intake increased the vacuum - that gave a better draw of fuel into the intake and cylinders.

TRCM, you're correct. Thanks for explaining what I meant to say. Not sure why I said vacuum, it actually decreases under acceleration.
