No doubt in my mind, the Challenger is by far the best car in it's class. As a long time Mustang owner, I really wanted to like the new Mustang but I just couldn't. I drove several different versions but simply couldn't find enough good about the car to make me want to own one, let alone to give up my '03 Cobra. Tried the Camaro too but had similar results. It was an okay car but nothing very inspiring. Wasn't until I drove a Challenger that I finally knew I'd found my next car. Hard to put a finger on it but the car just stirs the sole in the right way!
And regarding the old vs. new Challenger styling, if you look carefully, you'll see the new car actually bares a stronger resemblance to the Barracuda than the Challenger in some ways. Specifically the side body lines. My first car was a '70 'Cuda and Lord knows I spent a lot of time waxing those body lines back in the day!
