    If you do not know the answer, do not comment. It just makes sense. Wrong answers just clutter and complicate things. There are no wrong questions - only wrong answers.

    The "keyhole" that you see next to the shifter is actually an analog of a button used to unlock the transmission (from Park). To unlock it, you simply insert the ignition key in the keyhole.

    Shift Lock is needed when the engine does not start, the gearbox fails (i.e., stays in Park), or you are in a road accident and the car must be towed in Neutral.

    This feature can also be useful during maintenance services of automatic cars. If the gear shifting mechanism gets out of order, technicians from repair shops can shift gears with the use of the Shift Lock.

    For more information, look at your owner's manual.[/QUOTE]

    Did you even read the question mister moderator or do you have a bot that does that for you? Your answer was for a "Shift Lock near the shifter of an automatic transmission" not the "stupid Shift Lock feature on manual transmissions". But thanks for clarifying what the innocent questioning member did NOT mean.

    BunnyMom asked two questions- she had a general knowledge question about skip shifters and a specific question about the purpose of the "keyhole" next to her auto. shifter:

    "Hello, can someone explain what the skip shift is all about? Not finding that answer. If you have nothing nice to say, please go elsewhere. Looking for legit answers to a legit question. Want to learn all I can. Thank you for your time!

    PS what is the keyhole(?) next to shifter? 2010 v6 auto.

    I responded to both questions.

    WOW! This is a good example of why you shouldn't slam other members' posts.
    We all miss stuff once in a while, we're human.
    Great response SRT-Tom, short, sweet and to the point.

    2021 Scat Pack Widebody has a factory skip shift eliminator.

    On the console I hit the drive mode button twice to go into Custom which is...

    Traction = Street
    Suspension = Sport
    Steering = Sport

    In these settings there is no skip shift.

    I sure hope BUNNY MOM doesn't get discouraged by some of the above responses :argue:

    Just a couple things to add to the stupid "Skip-Shift Solenoid" comments:
    I drove my 6-Speed SRT for about 2-weeks before I noticed it not letting me Shift into 2nd under certain RPM ranges.
    I immediately "Googled" the problem and found the above forementioned By-Pass cable and installed one.
    I hope the Engineer who designed that for the Viper/Challenger and other Tremec 6-speed was FIRED.

    Clicking through that AMAZON Link I saw they even installed them in Cadillac's.
    Which brings up the question,
    If Caddy can have a Manual Trans why can't the SRT Chrysler's and Jeeps? :driver:
