I did not want to pay hundreds of dollars for a compact spare so I looked on eBay and there were several sellers. The compact spare is the same from 2005 to present for Dodge Challengers and Chargers and Chrysler 300s. I bought one for $86 including tax and shipping (wow). The spare is 27" in diameter and weighs 35 lbs. The tires on my car are 29" in diameter (Black Top 20" wheels). I'm not sure I see an issue with using it on the rear wheel for short distances. After all, the rear wheels turn at different speeds on turns. I decided to leave the plastic tray in the trunk and use it for my scissors jack and tools and just lay the tire on a mover's blanket in the trunk. That's a big trunk. Keeping the inflating tool as well. Depending on the circumstances in case I have to use it instead of changing the tire.
I put one of the "off-season" wheel/tire in the truck. I only take it out when I need to use the whole trunk space which doesn't happen often. So, one winter or summer tire in the truck and a AAA membership give me the insurance I need when on the road.
I have only used that at the end of the night at the track. To take the tires back up from 12lbs to 38
