I bought the shifter from a Challenger forum member, good as new. Ordered the bolts from Hurst, 3X too long! Simply pull up on the ring from the leather side and it pops right out. No tools needed. Although I loved the short throw on the Mopar shifter, it was just too short for my 6'5" frame. Install complete. A beautiful part and it "feels" more retro!
I had to rebuild (basically replace) the crappy Tremec transmission last year. The Dodge production line put glue instead of grease on the input shaft. It was a "voluntary" recall if you knew about it. A Star case number. It caused my input and throwout bearing to fuse to and warp my input shaft. My "platinum" warranty called it a clutch issue and didn't cover it. OK, enough whining. After 5200 bucks and upgrades including a Hurst linkage with the K&N (Larry's) mods I stayed with the short throw Mopar shifter as they recommended. It was like an automatic compared to the stock tranny and linkage, but I always liked the "retro" look of the pistol grips. I got the grip used for $175.00 so I bought it. LOVE it. It definitely adds to the retro feel.
