I will be taking my R/T in for a T56 alternator exchange for the recall on Fri. They have viewed the serial # of my unit as needing to be replaced. No one at the dealership could answer my ques. of the hard drive content I have put into my radio which was quite time consuming into many many untold hrs. of c/d music. The radio is a 2014. Does anyone know if I should expect to lose all my hard drive content when they disconnect the battery for a couple hrs. while they exchange my alternator? They claim theres no equipment at any dealership that will let them remove the hard drive content, store it briefly then reinsert it back into my hard drive when the battery is reconnected. Thks in advance.

if it just a alternator replacement, no you will not loose you hard drive content, I have a 2009 and have had my alternator replaced twice, and it didn't effect my radio at all with the stored music on my hard drive.

Install of my new alternator went well. No loss of hard drive music not even any loss of radio stations from memory. The only two items affected were the loss of the correct time & all my radio memory stgs. for bass treble left-right sound preferences. They were set back to the center of the screen as a default.
One little side note I didn't expect to see was the spray of water on my lower half & front of the engine & also on the abs unit. The tech. came out to my car to mention that the upper rad. hose is required to be removed to clear the alternator from the car which caused the overflow of a/f during removal & required spraying off the above mentioned area with water.

Yes you can do that. That may be a weekend project......I usually just us a 3.5mm audio cable from my IPhone to the audio input on the front of the stereo. It would have been nice to have that input within the arm rest housing

I dumped about 3 gig of songs to the HD in my 2012 Ram.......it does take awhile.....

Now, on my 2015 ST 392, ya can't do that....have to use a memory card.....so I just loaded them onto it and leave it in the slot

I did the same on my 2015, loaded a bunch of music onto a usb jump drive and leave it plugged in.
