I use it for my 5spd auto, changed over to that about 5 years ago when I had transmission serviced at about 50,000 got 96,000 miles now and several trips to the track and no problems.

I personally like Chevron Delo Gear lubricant. It uses a different type of chemistry than conventional Sulfur/Phosphorus based products. Chevron ran transmission and differential tests in HD trucks for 2 million miles and showed no gear face wear in either unit. Amsoil doesn't have this type of technology and the synthetic base oil used in Amsoil is little better than the severely hydroprocessed base oils used in all modern lubricants. I formulated engine oils for Chevron for 18 years and was impressed with their gear oil product line. Used it in all my muscle cars from 8 3/4 to Hemi Dana 3.55 with total success.

I just did the rear diff service, I replaced my clutch Saturday and also used the Amsoil ATF. We will see how it performs, thanks for the im-put. I will look into chevron for the next time.

    ATF?
Thought that stood for Alcohol, Tobacco & Firearms? :)

So it seams to be a mix between Amsoil and Royal Purple
Damn, it's like VHS & BetaMAX all over again

Found this on Royal Purple's web site: http://www.royalpurpleconsumer.com/products/max-gear/

Max-Gear is an ultra-tough automotive gear oil. It’s designed to maximize power and provide unsurpassed protection to heavily loaded gears. It makes gears run smoother, quieter, cooler and longer without overhauls.

Max-Gear outperforms other gear oils because it combines the highest quality synthetic oils with Royal Purple’s proprietary Synerlec additive technology.

Max-Gear is recommended for use in truck, motor home / RV, and automotive front or rear differentials, manual transmissions, and lower gear units of marine engines that specify use of an API GL-5 or GL-4 fluid. All viscosities of Max-Gear are formulated with hypoid friction modifiers necessary for use in clutch or cone type differentials. No additional additives are necessary.

Synerlec, Royal Purple’s proprietary, additive lubricant technology, is the cornerstone of RP's entire product line. It creates an ionic bond that adheres to metal parts to provide continuous protection even at start-up and strengthens the oil to provide unparalleled performance and protection.

Royal Purple’s high film strength prevents contact between metal parts reducing friction and heat thereby transferring more power to the drive wheels while maximizing the lubricant service life. As well, Synerlec amplifies the already-exceptional oxidation resistance of the synthetic base oils.
