I bought new lug nuts, because the chrome ones kind of stood out with the blackout package wheels that came on the car. A guy I work with noticed they are more narrow than the original chrome ones, and told me that I cannot use them because, “they’re for aftermarket rims”. They’re the same size, 14mm by 1.5, and the point of contact with the rim should be exactly the same the way I see it. Everything ABOVE the point of contact on the rim is purely cosmetic, right?

So can I use the black ones or not?

Looks okay in the pic. similar to the spline type I am using. ( with out the pointy end ).
Do you have a deep enough socket for them, and if you do don't forget to have something in the car at all times just in case of emergency.

I have a deep socket and torque wrench. I was going to just replace them one at a time with the car's wheels on the ground and not using a jack. I couldn't think of a reason as to why that wouldn't work.

Remember to do it in the STAR pattern
And recheck after a 100 miles
then again if any are looser than what you originally torque then to

You have these same ones, or something similar?

Nope, but had ONE bad experience years ago with aluminum rims having the lug nuts come loose.
Now I check, and recheck. Even, and especially if someone else has installed them.

No. But the specs call for the 105 ft lbs It’s in your owners manual

I'm sure there are many people here that give good information, and I'm not trying to say anyone is wrong, but I'd suggest you check your owners manual for the proper lug nut torque specifications for your car.

Lug nut torque specs are different depending on the year and trim level.

    Example:
Owners manual for a 2015 Challenger say 130 Ft-Lbs lug nut torque

For the same year (2015) Challenger SRT 392 or Hellcat the lug nut torque is 111 Ft-Lbs
