Upon purchasing, the drain holes were covered with plastic tape; trunk area. How many have removed the tape ? Also, do any believe the tape was placed there for blocking water? I would only believe that if this were the case, a better plug (rubber) would have been used.

The plastic tape was 'not removed' during prep. Any and all opinions regarding the aforesaid is most welcome. Some pictures enclosed.

Ok, I'll take a stab at this. I've seen these holes taped on other vehicles too. I'll say the tape should stay on. Unlike a car door that needs to drain any water that penetrated past the window weatherstripping, the trunk lid is sealed from water. I'm not sure of the exact reason for the holes or the tape. My guess is that they were access points for a penetrate, sealer or some type of anti-corrosion coating for where the trunk skin meets the lid's inner frame/structure.

I removed the tape on my Challenger. I have read many explanations for the tape, but nothing conclusive.

Everyone should vote whereby I can provide an explanation at the end of seven days.
    * Point of interest > "What would be the definition of "drain hole"? Should anything cover a "drain hole", would anything be drained- 'common sense'?

"Drain Holes" are usually are access points to Shock Mounts, Starter bolts, Removing Gas Tanks.

Or FACTORY holes for automation processes.

But can also be used for extensive cleaning to get the Blood out of the trunk :hunter:

The thing that threw me was the Tape, never have seen that or never noticed it.

*Purchased 'new' as the tape or plastic covering the drain holes were never removed. In the same light as previously stated, "What is the definition of 'drain holes'? It appears not many are casting their vote. This may be viewed as not many purchasing Challengers new.

    Yes, I voted NO.

Here in Portland Oregon the car would just fillup with water, and RUST out your car.
Everywhere else it would let Dirt, MICE, Snakes, all sorts of stuff in.
