Here is an interesting video citing 8 muscle cars whose horsepower was deliberately under-rated by the factories to get a competitive edge at the track and, also, to keep insurance premiums down.

    Two Mopar cars stand out- a 1970 Hemi 'Cuda (425 hp. to 470 hp.) and a 1970 Challenger R/T 440 Six-Pack (390 hp. to 430 hp.).

Great video.....The 302 Z28 Camaro in the '68-'69 model years were under rated at a very mild 290 hp. The same rating for the 302 Boss Mustang. My personal favorite was my '70 Challenger 340 rated at a very modest 275 hp but NHRA put the true hp rating in the 330-350 hp range.

Actually, the NHRA factored the 4-barrel engine up to 325 hp.
