Hello everyone, I started noticing a transmission problem on my 2009 Challenger SE. This is the 42RLE tranny (4spd auto). There is a delay shifting into 4th and out of 4th. This happens when I am light on the gas pedal going between 40-50MPH. If I am heavy on the gas it there is less of a delay, but it's still delayed. Could I be low on transmission oil? I bought this aftermarket tranny dipstick from eBay https://www.ebay.com/itm/162394038973 Unfortunately I don't have a way of checking the tranny temperature before measuring. Tried to find a temp probe on eBay, but to no avail. Can I just check it after my 30min drive to work and assume it's at operating temp? Also, I read there was a TSB out for the 42RLE transmissions. Would reflashing transmission control module or updating PCM to adjust shift points work? THANKS FOR YOUR HELP!
BUMP! Any tips on how to check tranny temp before checking tranny oil lvl? Was thinking about using one of those laser temp readers, but not sure how accurate they are?
not sure, but you are right , hard to check the fluid in these things, goes as well as for the 5 speed. I had 2009 SE for my first challenger. I would recommend taking it to a transmission shop,. not knowing how many miles you have on yours, the trans filter could be sue for a change. I know I changed mine at 60,000 miles on my RT. I didnt have my SE long enough to change the fluid as I had 42,000 miles on it when I traded it off. if and when you do change the fluid and filter, you might want to do synthetic fluid, I use Asmoil in mine and dont have any problems
Thanks Intimidator, Paying a tranny shop here $200 for tranny oil replacement, with Mopar ATF +4. They'll be changing the filter as well and the oil pan gasket. Hopefully this solves my problem!
UPDATE: - Did a tranny flush & fill. Replaced filter. - Had Dodge dealership update PCM (no updates available for TCM) Car still drives the same, so neither of those things solved the issue. May have to rebuild tranny soon. Anyone know what a shop might charge to rebuild my 4spd 42RLE tranny?
How many miles are on the car? We had a tinny rebuilt on a Ford 3500 cargo van to replace gears that had been ground off, $1800 Canadian. I beleive some of the tuners out there will allow you to monitor auto tranny temps and adjust shift points. I’m not sure what is available for the SE’s. Does the tranny shift properly during spirited driving times?
a old school diablosport predator will work on the SE, just have to get the right one, I used one on my 2009 with a 4 speed. was able to adjust shift points.
