Hi, I’ve been having issues with my fuel gauge for a while now where the reader is not giving me accurate reading of my fuel levels. I’ve replaced since then both the primary and secondary fuel pump sensors and the issue still persists with the reader not reading my fuel levels correctly. The mechanics are stumped and I’m very frustrated with why this is still ongoing. Can anyone help with this please?! The photo attached shows empty tank but my fuel was still 3/4 full.
Have they checked the wire harness for damage or possibly grounding out somewhere? What year and type of Challenger do you have? Welcome to the site by the way.
Thank you! It’s a 2010 RT. I don’t believe they checked the wire harness or grounding issues, or maybe they did and it wasn’t an issue. I’ll have to follow up with them. I’m just confused with why the issue can’t be determined because the check engine light is on too with this issue, but your suggestions help me with understanding more about the issue too.
I’m not sure how the new floats work, old school floats basically are a rheostat, as the float moves up the resistance rises causing the gauge to show full. If the float drops to empty it grounds out and shows empty. Not sure if the new ones function the same. Did the techs not read what the engine code fault is? Let us know if and how this gets resolved Great year by the way...
If your Challenger is a a 2010 or older you may just need to do a gauge cluster reset. With the car off, press and hold the odometer reset switch on the gas gauge. While you're pressing it in, turn the ignition to ON (not accessory). Once the different gauge cluster lights turn on and the gauge needles start to move you can let go of the reset switch. Let it run through the gauge cluster diagnostics. When it's done the actual odometer will read "done". See if that works....
