There was a definite improvement on throttle response. You could feel the car launch harder and got up to speed better. Now this is only by the seat of my pants feel, nothing timed at the strip. I found out later the car had been tuned with an exhaust system without the cat’s on it.

Most people don't realize if you were to take a stock R/T and pulled the cats, mufflers etc you would absolutely be reducing the engine output. I've seen people do that on R/T's and Scat Packs and then find to their dismay that they dropped 20-30hp on a dyno. They also lost time at the track and really killed their low and mid-range power. But it's a lot louder!
My point is that the exhaust system helps tune your car's driveability and you saw that first hand.

Took my car in for it's first service today at the local dealership and had two guys ask me what exhaust I have! Maybe I should tell Flowmaster I want a kick-back!

been wanting to get a louder sound with mine, I have a solo performance but just wanted that louder sound when idling and cruising. a friend of mine told me to cut the cats off. I do have a trinity tuner so I would be able to adjust for the codes being thrown. but not sure about doing that personally. when I initially bought the car back in 2011, it had straight pipe exhaust. wasn't bad cruising the high way but when it was in town and running through the gears and all, it was super loud. I have heard them all really, was at a show this past weekend, and heard many different ones, heard one with a Borla exhaust and it did sound like what I am looking for .

you would be surprised what runs illegal around here, and they dont do pollutant checks on cars where either.

Same here....but tampering with emissions is federal, not state.

And if you are after just louder, get a new exhaust and keep the cats....better on the planet that way.

just looked at the Flowmaster American Thunder on the Flowermaster site and IMHO the Solo system sounds better. May be me, but my Pontiac's (F-Bodies 400 4spds) with glasspaks sounded great and that's the sound looking to get.

    1. Beyond a shadow of a doubt, I would guarantee that sound clips online are useless.
    2. Pulling your cats is a bad idea. You'll actually be reducing your performance as well as being irresponsible with the environment.

i would agree as i just heard a 5.7 auto with the American Thunder system and sounded good.
Would never pull the cats on this maybe upgrade to some high flow cats but don't think it's necessary as the gains are not worth it.
how is the sound inside with your system?
