Anyone using Mobil 1 Syn. ATF in the M6? Was thinking to used RP but have heard some bad things lately.
I will not use Mobil-1 in anything for personal reasons, but was planning The Purple Stuff for my 2nd change. The 1st at 25k I used Mopar +++4 as I was having 2nd-3rd issues at the track. What BAD things? Internet Rumors or actual experience?
I used the RP in my 2010 RT M6 with no issues. I changed my diff fluid at the same time using the RP products. After the change I did sense a subtle shift change. Seemed to smooth out a bit of the notchy feel that I would sometimes experience
using it in a 2001 Ram 2500 Cummings TD HO NV-5600 6spd (stock TD) (set up with a 5th wheel flat bed hauling 2 cars) it came apart around 15K (this was the 3RD new unit on this truck within 75K) The shop we got it from stated that the RP caused the failure & RP would not get involved, they stated use at your own risk. Also my dad on his 2005 Vulcan 1600 had the shaft seals replaced and the shop used RP to refill the shaft & diff. it ate the seals within 125 miles.
It has always bothered me putting ATF in a Manual Trans. I have NEVER changed the fluid in my 2000 Ram 2500 V10 5-speed and still going strong at 160K+ miles. Doing it every 25K miles in the Challenger seems silly, but I did noticed a difference after changing. i also don't like ATF in MT's Lucas has Syn 50 wt ATF for use in heavy duty truck transmissions but have not seen of it would work for our TR-6060's. I did talk with a Camaro owner that uses the Mobil-1 Syn ATF and likes it. I still have the old school habits, just want a good trans oil that can take some hard driving and that i wont have to change every 10k.
